Sand Tray Therapy

A boy plays with sand in a sensory table while an adult watches nearby.

Sand Tray Therapy offers a powerful way for children, teens, and adults to express experiences that may be difficult to put into words. Using a tray of sand and a wide selection of miniature figures, clients create scenes that reflect their inner world thoughts, emotions, memories, and hopes. These scenes become a safe, symbolic language that allows healing to unfold naturally.

How Sand Tray Therapy Works

During a session, clients choose from miniatures such as people, animals, buildings, natural elements, and symbolic objects. They place these items in the sand to build a scene that represents what they’re feeling or experiencing. The therapist observes with curiosity and respect, offering reflections that help clients gain insight and emotional clarity.

Sand Tray Therapy is grounded in principles of nonverbal expression, symbolic communication, and experiential processing, making it especially helpful when traditional talk therapy feels overwhelming or inaccessible.
